NorthWord Church is a small community of Bible-believing Christians, living together in Christ, who:
Confess Christ - First and foremost, NorthWord Church participants confess Christ as the only Savior presented through God’s grace for the salvation of man; that Jesus is Lord, who directs all that we do.
Focus on Jesus - We focus on Christ Jesus’ preeminence in our worship, praise time, and verse-by-verse teaching of His Word.
Celebrate Jesus - NorthWord celebrates the practice of weekly Communion as a reminder of the priority of Christ in our gathering together and in our daily lives.
Devoted to Prayer - We are devoted to prayer — corporately and personally — in seeking the Lord’s leadership in the church’s and our personal lives.
Humility - We humble ourselves before the Lord, prayerfully seeking the Spirit’s direction for the community in matters of size and ministry emphasis; and are willing to accommodate that direction as necessary.
Plurality of Leaders - We humble ourselves before the Lord, prayerfully seeking the Spirit’s direction for the community in matters of size and ministry emphasis; and are willing to accommodate that direction as necessary.
Unifying Gifts of Service - Understand that gifts of service to the Body have been given to every true Believer by the will of the Spirit; that those gifts are to be exercised both inside and outside the church by each follower; and we endorse those ministries typical in the life of the fellowship and directed by God’s Word for the exercise of those gifts. As the Spirit moves the hearts of each in the community, and as they respond in obedience, ministries will develop, expand or contract.
Deepening Our Personal Relationships - A major objective with NorthWord is the growth of personal relationships within the fellowship to provide opportunity to exercise Jesus’ great command of “loving one another” through small group fellowship and ministry co-working.
Life Under the Word - Congregants desire to grow spiritually under the tutelage of the Word of God, hearing from a variety of teachers presenting different perspectives to the understanding of God and His ways thoroughly. It is further our intent and responsibility to grow the next generation of leaders and teachers who will continue to promulgate the Church’s eternal purpose.
The elders of NorthWord Church believe doctrinal elements beyond the essentials noted above are to be treated with grace, as preferences, and should not be a cause for judgment or division within the community.
We invite you and your family to participate with the NorthWord community in honoring, praising, and worshiping Jesus. Worship with us on Sundays, 10:00 a.m. at Lewis-Palmer HS, Monument, CO.
“Out of the north comes golden splendor;
Around God is awesome majesty.” – Job 37:22
Our Purpose: To reflect Christ to the world. (Ephesians 3:8-11)
Our Vision: To know and love the Lord Jesus, transformed by His power (1 John 4:19)
Our Focus:
We want people to see the Lord – lifted up, honored, and cherished. We speak of His Grace, both locally and globally, allowing Him to display His character in us with humility, contentment and hope. (Romans 15:13, Phil 1:20, Col 1:15-18, 4:2-6, 1 Thess 1:8-10, 1 Pet 3:15-16)
The Bible is God’s very words. It is the primary tool that His Spirit uses to grow followers of Christ. We preach and teach God’s Word expositionally. We study it, and discuss it to deeply understand and pursue God. His mysteries, purposes, and principles give us true direction and fulfillment for life. (Psalm 19:7-11, John 17:17-21, 1 Cor 4:1, 2 Tim 3:16-17, 1 Pet 2:1-2, 2 Pet 1:20-21)
Reliance on God is fundamental. To know His heart and seek His will, we must listen carefully—at all times. (Acts 6:4, Eph. 6:18-20, Col. 4:2, 1 Thess. 5:17)
A renovation of heart is expected of genuine believers. Christ “in us” motivates our actions, attitudes, and words to honor Him and impact those around us. Our desire is to have Him live in and through us. (John 14:15, Phil. 1:6, Col. 1:27, Titus 3:4-6)
Transformation flourishes in community. We are committed to reflecting God’s honor by fostering and protecting an environment of biblical compassion, mercy, and hospitality, sharing our spiritual gifts and abilities, and offering our lives, time, and possessions to Him as acts of true worship. (John 13:34-35, Romans 12:1-21, Eph 4:25-32, 1 Pet. 4:8-11)
All Scripture is inspired and inerrant as originally given – both the Old and New testaments. They are God’s final authority for faith and life. (2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:20-21).
There is but One true God, eternally existing in three persons (a Tri-unity) – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4; Matt 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14).
He is deity (the Son) in human flesh. We affirm His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and personal, imminent return in power and glory to judge and rule the world. (Mark 10:45; Luke 1:31-33; John 1:1, 14, 29, 3:16; Acts 1:11, 2:22-24; Rom 8:34 Phil 2:5-8, 3:20-21; Col 1:15-20; 1 Thess 4:13-18; Heb 1:3, 9:28, 10:5-14; 1 Pet 2:24, 3:18; 1 John 2:1; Rev 19:11-21, 21:22)
Human beings are completely in sin (total depravity) and have no capacity to be freed from its power. They were corrupted from their original purpose as image bearers and now require God’s spiritual re-birth (regeneration). (Gen 1:26, 3:17-24; Isa 59:2; Luke 18:26-27, Rom 3:9-19, 23; Eph 2:1-3)
The forgiveness and cleansing of sins is a free gift of God, entirely apart from human effort or deeds. All who have genuinely trusted (biblical faith, commitment) the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior no longer live under divine condemnation for sin (justified). (John 1:12-13, 3:14-16, 10:27-29, 14:6; Rom 8:1, 31-39, 10:9-10; 2 Cor 5:17; Eph 1:7, 2:8-10; 1 Pet 1:3-5
He indwells and regenerates people at the moment they genuinely believe, enabling them to live godly lives, serve others, and overcome the evil one, Satan. (Matt 5:16; John 16:7-14; 1 Cor 6:19, 12:13; Gal 5:22-23; Eph 1:13-14, 4:30; 1 Pet 4:10-11)
All believers are universally linked in the mystical Body of Christ, whose purpose is to display the character of God and bring Him honor. Nevertheless, the visible church is locally expressed and governed, regularly celebrating baptism and communion. (Matt 28:18-20; John 17; Acts 1:8, 2:42-47; Eph 3:8-11, 4:1-6, 11-16)
All are resurrected physically from the dead, those who have trusted Christ (the justified) to everlasting blessedness, those who have rejected Christ (the lost) to everlasting punishment. (Matt 25:31-46; Rev 20:11-15)
Our church convened its first community worship in July, 2005, after meeting several months as a thriving and rapidly expanding Bible study in the home of one of our founding elders. The founding families desired to provide the Monument / Tri-Lakes / Northern Colorado Springs area with:
Our goal as a church is to foster our relationships with Jesus and build Christ-like relationships with each other.
NorthWord is a non-denominational church.
We wanted a name that gave a little inkling of where we were located, but that also gave a sense of the fact that we were committed to teaching the Bible. Since we are located in the north part of the county, we thought NorthWord was a good image of how we get our bearings in life (from God’s Word) as well as a hint of the fact that most of our members reside in the Tri-Lakes region including northern Colorado Springs, Gleneagle, Jackson Creek, Monument, and Palmer Lake communities. “Out of the north comes golden splendor; Around God is awesome majesty.” – Job 37:22
We do not distinguish between the role or title of “pastor”, “overseer”, or “elder”. The Bible uses those terms interchangeably, regardless of remuneration, spiritual gifting, or specific role.
Current pastoral/elder leadership consists of Clayton Grissinger, Ted Cox, and Mike Schmidt . NorthWord’s lead teaching pastor is Clayton Grissinger.
Contributing and visiting pastors/teachers are invited to preach at different times of the year.
Our governing follows the biblical model of plural elder leadership.
Leadership decisions require unanimity. Elders individually and collectively are responsible before God for the oversight of the local flock under their care and charge. Qualifications for eldership primarily concern character (not gifting), and are detailed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. An elder must have previously demonstrated effective ministry within our church family.
Although we recognize the value of various church programs, we also highly value leadership and participation directly from our members. As a result, we strive to wait upon God’s timing for providing the appropriate resources for any ministries we undertake. We also desire not to be inappropriately focused on merely our own needs & desires, but also looking toward needs in our community and in other places around the world.
Active ministries include:
Coffee Service
Set-up Team
A-V and Sound Team
Worship Team
Greeting and Fellowship Prior of Worship Service
Worship Service (for all ages)
Bible Message and Discussion Session
Communion
Nursery Care
Children’s Sunday School for K-6th
Optional Community Lunch & Fellowship After Service, every other Sunday
NorthWord Church is committed to the idea and action of reaching the world for Christ. The Bible clearly teaches there are several principles in WHO to reach, but leaves much flexibility in the METHODS used. One thing the Bible does clearly emphasize is the MANNER in which we communicate the Good News about Jesus – in a caring, loving, and sacrificial manner, looking to the needs of others first.
As a result, our emphasis is on encouraging one another to develop caring individual relationships with people who don’t yet know Christ, not on promoting broader social or political issues.
We desire to reach out to people both in our own community, as well as beyond in other domestic or international areas.
Our chosen methodology is to support a small number of organizations, individuals, or projects in a more substantial fashion, as opposed to a large number of activities in a small fashion. Our desire is to help focus our congregation on a few places where we can have significant impact and also have deeper and more involved relationships with the ministries and missionaries we support.
Get more information on church-wide ministries and how you might participate in their activities from any NorthWord leader or by visiting the Community Website. You also could stop by the information table before or after service on Sunday; or, talk to one of our leaders about your areas of interest.
We invite you and your family to participate with the NorthWord community in honoring, praising, and worshiping Jesus. Worship with us on Sundays, 10:00 a.m., at Lewis-Palmer HS, Monument, CO.
